Herewith follows some information about me, Eddie Wilson, and my family.  If you are interested in knowing more about us, please read on.  If you are not  interested, please skip this one!

Baby Eddie

I was born on 22 January 1950 in Worcester, Cape Province as the second child of three out of my loving parents, George and Ann Wilson.

Since my early days it was discovered that I had a special talent for art.  This talent also triggered my love for photography and to paint with light.  After finishing school I joined the South African Air Force (SAAF) and started a career as Air Photographer.  Four years later, at the end of 1971, I qualified as professional Air Photographer.  I worked for 8 years as professional photographer in the SAAF.

Eddie & Susan

I married Susan van der Merwe on 2 January 1971 in Pretoria.  Out of our marriage 3 children were born.  Lynette, Edward and Annwin.

I continued with my studies and after another 4 years, I successfuly completed the Higher National Diploma for Technicians in Electronic Engineering.  I started a new career at ISCOR (Iron & Steel Corporation) in their Automation department as a Hardware/Software Computer Technician.

When digital photography was introduced, I immediately embarked upon the exciting journey by combining my knowledge of computer technology and photography.  During 1999, I bought my first digital camera, the 1.3mp Nikon Coolpix 900, in London at Grays of Westminster, an exclusive Nikon dealer.  Since then, I grew with the expensive development of digital photography and upgraded my camera's regularly.  When I now look back over the 12 years since that first digital camera, I can truly say that digital photography is by far superior to film photography.  The only negative thing is that digital photography consumes much more time than film photography.  You are only finished with your end product after your computer work has been done.  But what an amazing end product!

My late father was very artistic and did well with his oil on canvas.  Since photography is also an art, I decided to develop the artist in me even further and started to paint with oil on canvas.  It is a very creative and stimulating hobby which I exercised for a few years, however my first love remains to paint with light!

For 19 years I was employed full time as a Minister of Religion until I went on early retirement at the end of December 2007.  During this time I kept my photography alive as a hobby.

My son Eddie jnr followed in the foot steps of his dad and at the end of 1996, he also qualified in the SAAF as professional Air Photographer.  He exercised his photography in and outside the SAAF and during 2005 accepted employment as photographer on the Carribean Cruisers in Miami.   Eddie met Sorina in Miami, a professional photographer from Romania,  who at the time already had 4 years experience in photography on the luxury cruisers.  They fell in love and got married on 20 October 2006 in Pretoria, South Africa.  At that time our studio, FOTO ARTIST STUDIO, kicked off and they exercised there photography from the studio.  It is only from the 1st of January 2008 that FOTO ARTIST STUDIO became fully operational.

Since my childhood I couldn't get enough of the Cape mountains and when I later discovered FRANSCHHOEK, I dreamed of settling down one day in this picturesque town.  By the grace of God this dream came true and my wife and I moved to FRANSCHHOEK on 11 May 2009.  The dream even went further and on 9 July 2009 FOTO ARTIST STUDIO was launched in FRANSCHHOEK

I conclude this brief history with a few photo's of my family.  Thanks for reading these few lines and hopefully it will help you when you battle to make up your mind whether or not to use our services.  THANKS!
